Se trata de un fenómeno que ocurre dos veces por año, en el que, al atardecer, el sol se alinea con las calles de Manhattan, precisamente por eso es conocido como Manhattanhenge o Solsticio de Manhattan.

El nombre de Manhattanhenge es una combinación de Manhattan y Stonehenge, el famoso monumento megalítico en Amesbury, Inglaterra. En este sitio de grandes bloques de rocas, el sol se alinea durante los solsticios de verano y de invierno.
